La Matanza (2007)

Este documento gráfico ahonda en las tradiciones que antaño eran acciones de pura supervivencia y que ahora perviven en la intimidad de las reuniones con la familia y los amigos. El proceso de la matanza ofrece dos lecturas. Por un lado, el sufrimiento del animal que se repite cada día en miles de ocasiones. Las cadenas de distribución de alimentos han multiplicado sus eslabones hasta alejarnos de la idea de que la muerte de un animal es necesaria para nuestra alimentación. Por otro, la fiesta entre amigos que discurre paralela a la matanza del cerdo y que parece cruel a los ojos del espectador.

This graphic document explores the traditions that long ago were just actions of survival and now only last in the privacy of familiar reunions. The slaughter process offers two interpretations. On one hand we have the animal’s suffering, which is repeated every day in different occasions. The food supply chains have multiplied their links to the point that we are not aware anymore of the fact that the death of an animal has been necessary for our feeding. On the other hand, the celebration with relatives and friends takes place parallel to the pig-slaughter, which is seen as a cruelty in the eyes of the spectator.
